Who are you today?
Submitted by Pippa on Sun 30 Sep
How do you answer when someone asks "what do you do?" What are the secret dreams you have about yourself that you rarely admit?
This month we’re sharing self-portraits that complete the sentence “I’m a Mum and a…” We've road-tested this task at a couple of events and it has been fascinating to see how we choose to complete the sentence.
“I’m a Mum and a…” What’s the first word that comes into your head? Don’t think too hard. This word doesn’t have to define you, it’s just a snapshot. What’s your answer today? Write it on a piece of paper and take a photo of you holding it up. You can see what other mums have told us about their identities and share your photo here. And you can of course share another one any time you discover a new piece of your puzzle.
As for me, right now I’m a Mum and a TGV traveller. I’m working in France this week, my first time away from my children on my own. As the train speeds through the countryside, I’m missing them terribly and trying to balance my mum and work identities.
We would love to feature guest blogs this month about identity and motherhood, so do let us know if you'd like to contribute.
What happened last month?
You can read the highlights of our twitter Mums’ Make Date here – including wise words on what it really means to be a Supermum (capes are over-rated), my immense excitement at receiving a Supermum drawing from the legendary Doodlemum, and the emotional love-fest that was Nat and Hannah both making amazing Supermum Postcards to celebrate the same inspiring mum, Kat Pearce.
I had a little epiphany in the park and wrote about that too. If you need to feel more beautiful today, have a read.
What’s up next?
We’ve some exciting developments in the pipeline for story of mum in the next 12 months and would be grateful for any feedback you have about our creative community. Can you spare a moment to tell us what you like and what you don’t like about story of mum, and what you would like to see next? Drop us an email or let us know when you might be free to chat on the phone, we’d really appreciate your input.
With love to you and your multiple personalities,
Pippa and Penny

The world is a frightening place sometimes. Sometimes the horror can feel so great that it can block out the light. But there is always light. We hope this...
